Arsenal went out of the FA Cup against Manchester United on penalties but there was a more concerning continuation of form for on-loan forward, Raheem Sterling.

Sterling came onto the field to replace Gabriel Jesus but had minimal impact on the game as the game went to extra-time and penalties before Kai Havertz’s miss proved decisive to send United through.

In a game that was heated throughout, Havertz angered football fans in general with his dive when up against Harry Maguire and for some, it will have felt telling the German was the one to miss.

However, while all eyes were on Havertz and the final result, the game also continued a run of miserable form for Raheem Sterling when it comes to facing Man United.

Raheem Sterling’s terrible record against Manchester United continues at Arsenal

For some reason in football, there are certain teams who players just cannot do the business against and for Raheem Sterling, it appears Man United are that team.

Today’s introduction off the bench for Sterling was his 28th appearance against United since he emerged as a first-teamer at Liverpool.

However, remarkably, Sterling has yet to score a single goal against United in that time.

Even more striking is that United are the team Sterling has come up against the most in his career, with Tottenham the next on the list at 25 appearances, where Sterling has scored eight times.

Worryingly for Sterling as well, his record overall against United is negative, with 15 defeats in those 28 games, and just nine wins.

Raheem Sterling’s goalscoring record against Premier League teams

Raheem Sterling has had a stellar Premier League career. He’s scored more than 130 goals and played more than 400 games for four of the biggest clubs in Europe.

However, his record against Man United will concern him, albeit it is a bit of an anomaly when you look at the other teams he’s played against.

In terms of goals scored, Sterling has smashed in 12 past Bournemouth in just 17 games, while at the lower end of the scale, he’s netted just twice in eleven against Fulham.

Raheem Sterling goals against Premier League teams
Bournemouth – 12
Watford – 11
Newcastle – 10
Southampton – 9
Tottenham/Arsenal/West Ham/Norwich – 8

Still, Sterling has had a top career and it’s a real surprise to see his record against United be so poor.

Surely, be the time he’s retired, he’ll have broken the hoodoo.
