Atlético Madrid’s Rodrigo De Paul has emerged as a target for West Ham United.

That’s according to Tuesday’s edition of Marca, and they cover the efforts put in by West Ham to try to sign him in the winter market.

De Paul has less than 18 months left on his deal and the La Liga side earlier considered selling him at the end of this season.

The 30-year-old is one of the Atlético players who has aroused most interest in this window. West Ham are said to be one of the interested clubs and Marca say they’ve converted their interest into an offer.

The newspaper states Los Rojiblancos received a €25m bid from the Hammers for the midfielder and have turned it down.

Diego Simeone’s side initially thought about cashing in on the Argentina international but have now changed their mind due to his performances this season. In fact, a source from the Madrid club states ‘he is at an extraordinary level’.

Therefore, Atlético have rejected West Ham’s offer for the World Cup winner, also because they don’t want to weaken their squad midway through the season.

They are currently fifth in the Champions League table and a win over Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday can see them secure a place in the last eight.

Atlético and the player need to decide whether or not to extend their association beyond 2026.

The report states De Paul could be tempted to earn the last big contract of his career, but his exit in this window is currently ruled out.
