'Why sell him' – Sale of player to Liverpool questioned, move branded 'ridiculous'

Liverpool landed Federico Chiesa in the summer transfer window, and Juventus seemed quite keen on moving the Italian on.

The winger has taken a while to get going at Anfield, having played only 18 minutes in the Premier League so far for Liverpool. Also he’s only played just a minute in the Champions League for the Reds.

In the meantime, there are now questions about why the player was moved on by Juve.

Il Napolista have looked at the decision, branding it as a 'ridiculous' idea for a fee as low as £12.5m. They state that while Chiesa is not Roberto Baggio by any means, he is probably Italy’s best footballer right now and 'why sell him'.

They believe that he could have made a difference for Juventus against Cagliari at the weekend, as the Bianconeri were held to a 1-1 draw by the Sardinian side.

It is thought that Chiesa could have come on from the bench and added a new dimension to the attack, which is something young Samuel Mbangula can’t quite do right now.

The outlet state that instead of selling the winger to Liverpool, Juve should have given him a chance, branding the choice to move him on as a financial decision.

The question is fair considering that Juve have scored only ten times this season. But Chiesa’s contract at the club was running out in 2025 and this was Juve’s best chance of selling him.

As time goes on, Mbangula could grow into a mature player and so can Kenan Yildiz. Then, Juve would be kind to themselves for selling Chiesa to Liverpool.
