Time to do business with these guys again maybe?

Eighteen months after a drawn-out transfer saga that never saw a much-talked about swap deal involving two very well known strikers actually go through, it appears as though Juventus and Chelsea are back to talking business.

And not just to try and solve Juve's desperate need for some defensive depth.

According to Fabrizio Romano and others on Wednesday, Juventus have submitted a bid for Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, who is one of the many players who have seen limited playing time due to the bloated squad Enzo Maresca has this season. Veiga, who signed with Chelsea just last summer, has reported interest from a handful of clubs in Europe, including Borussia Dortmund and Lazio. As one of the countless players Chelsea has signed over the last few transfer windows, Veiga signed from FC Basel for €14 million and signed a contract through 2031 (!!).

That's not all, though.

Chelsea have asked about the possibility of signing Douglas Luiz on loan for the rest of the current campaign, according to the likes of Romano and the Daily Telegraph's Matt Law. Juventus, however, don't look all too interested in sending Luiz — one of Cristiano Giuntoli's big-money signings from last summer — out on loan and are said to be demanding a big transfer fee for the 26-year-old Brazilian if they are to entertain the idea of him leaving on a permanent basis.

When it comes to the Luiz rumors, Chelsea aren't the first Premier League club to check in on his availability during the January transfer window. Romano and others have reported that Manchester City have also checked in on Luiz's status as he continues to try and find some kind of form for the first time since moving to Turin from Aston Villa.

But it seems as though the only way Giuntoli will find it acceptable to part ways with Luiz (and maybe admit that it just ain't going to work at Juventus) is if a big-money move comes in so the club can recoup some of the fee they paid to Villa at the end of June.

Veiga, meanwhile, has been one of the many Chelsea signings since the new ownership took over that both signed an incredibly long contract and has subsequently received little playing time outside of UEFA Conference League fixtures when Maresca very much goes with a B type of squad. In total, he has made 13 appearances between the Premier League and the Conference League, with both of his goals coming in Europe.
