Wrexham head to Wycombe Wanderers this weekend for a potentially decisive clash in the League One promotion race.

Wycombe Wanderers come into this weekend’s clash with Wrexham off the back of a draw with Peterborough United last weekend.

The Chairboys looked to be destined for a damaging defeat but talisman Richard Kone rescued a draw, levelling the scores at 1-1 late on.

It keeps them 2nd in the League One table as Mike Dodds looks to get Wanderers over the line and back to the Championship for the first time since 2020.

As for Wrexham, they make the trip to Adams Park off the back of defeat. Unlike Wycombe, they were in action in midweek and lost 2-0 away to Reading.

A second-half flurry from the Royals saw Harvey Knibbs and Lewis Wing score within four minutes of one another, securing a 2-0 win.

It was a first defeat in four for Phil Parkinson’s side, who had won three in that run. As a result, they remain in 3rd, level on points with Wycombe having played a game more.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“Whoever wins here could take a big step towards the Championship, especially Wycombe Wanderers.

“Form hasn’t exactly flowed for the Chairboys under the lead of Mike Dodds and that has brought other top two contenders to the fore. Charlton Athletic could be right amongst it soon, though Wycombe have the advantage of a game in hand.

Wrexham meanwhile will be determined to bounce back. They had been great on the road before than Reading game and will be determined to respond here.

“It’s a tough game to call as I have questions over whether either side will get 2nd now, but to pick a winner, I lean towards the hosts.”

Prediction: Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Wrexham

“This is a huge game at the top end of League One and both sides are level on points.

Wycombe Wanderers were dealt a blow when Matt Bloomfield left for Luton Town but they may well take the Hatters’ place in the Championship next season. Mike Dodds has done a steady job since taking over and has kept their momentum going.

Wrexham have adapted well to life in the third tier since their promotion from League Two. It has been well documented about the spending power they have.

“They were beaten 2-0 away at Reading last time out though which shows they still have weaknesses. However, I can see them getting a draw in this one.”

Prediction: Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Wrexham
