'Back on track' – Exeter City vs Birmingham City prediction: The72
Today at 03:18 AM
Birmingham City head to St James Park to face Exeter City in their upcoming League One clash on Tuesday night.
Birmingham City were beaten 3-1 away at Shrewsbury Town over the weekend. They fell to just their second league loss of the season against Gareth Ainsworth’s side.
The Blues were relegated from the Championship in the last campaign after they finished in the bottom three along with Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town. They are eyeing an immediate promotion back from League One.
Chris Davies‘ side are currently sat in 4th place in the table behind Wycombe Wanderers, Wrexham and Stockport County. However, the Midlands outfit have games in hand on teams around them.
As for Exeter City, they were beaten 3-0 away at Wrexham last time out. They are positioned in 11th and are three points off the play-offs.
Despite their loss to the Red Dragons, it hasn’t been a bad term for Gary Caldwell’s men so far. They have conceded only 13 goals in 15 fixtures and have the second best defensive record in the division.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Harry Mail
“Birmingham City need to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Shrewsbury Town.
“They have the quality in their ranks to beat anyone but have to be able to deal with the pressure that comes along with being expected to win every game.
“Some games are going to be a scrap for the Blues and things are not going to go their own way all the time.
“Exeter City are strong at the back but leaked three goals against Wrexham last time out. They may dent their confidence and I can see the visitors winning here.”
Prediction: Exeter City 1-2 Birmingham City
James Ray
“Birmingham City have drawn two and lost one in their last three games. These blips are inevitable for any top League One side, but given the eyes on the Blues this season, it’s always going to garner a reaction.
“The defeat to Shrewsbury Town was a really disappointing one though. Salop were right up for the scrap but the Blues should’ve had the quality to overcome them.
“They face a tough side in Exeter City on Tuesday night too, although the Grecians will have been disappointed with their performance against Wrexham. It makes for another tough game for Caldwell’s side and there’s a good chance they’re beaten again.
“Despite their dip, Birmingham will still be favourites to win and I’ll back them to get back on track.”
Prediction: Exeter City 1-2 Birmingham City
