Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday both had Leon Clarke on the books as a player and now, he’s joined the Birmingham City academy coaching team.

Birmingham City are building for a brighter future after some tough times in recent years.

They’re led by their hugely ambitious American ownership group and have their sights firmly set on rising back to the Championship at the first time of asking following their relegation to League One in the 2023/24 campaign.

The promotion bid is the priority at St. Andrew’s but the academy is another area of heavy focus with the Blues. They regularly produce a high calibre of young prospect, with some becoming first-team regulars while others are snapped up by top clubs.

Now, a new face will play a part in the Birmingham City academy setup.

Former EFL veteran Leon Clarke decided to hang up the books and retire in the summer and now, he is embarking on a new journey as he joins the Blues’ youth coaching ranks. He will help the development of a host of the club’s prospects across several age groups while completing his UEFA A licence.

Clarke has also been coaching the U18s at non-league side Kidderminster Harriers.
