Birmingham City are hoping to make Hannover defender Phil Neumann their first signing of the January transfer window, as per a report by BirminghamLive.

Birmingham City are poised to snap up the centre-back this winter. They are currently sat top of the League One table above Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham as they eye an immediate promotion back to the Championship.

Neumann, 27, has been a key player for Hannover over recent times but they are set to lose him this month. His contract with the Bundesliga.2 outfit expires at the end of this campaign and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

Therefore, his current team are cutting ties with him now to ensure that they don’t lose him for free. BirminghamLive report the Blues have rekindled their interest in him after trying to get him last summer.

Chris Davies’ side won 3-0 away at Wigan Athletic over the weekend.
