Bolton Wanderers yet to hold contract talks with 26-year-old, deal up this summer

Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Nathan Baxter has said he hasn’t had any communication with the club regarding a new deal.
Bolton Wanderers’ stopper sees his contract expire at the end of the season. He is due to become a free agent as things stand in late June unless BWFC strike an agreement.
Baxter, 26, linked up with the League One side back in 2023. He has since made 65 appearances in all competitions.
He has said, as per a report by The Bolton News: “I have not been communicated by the club in any way. But to be fair, I think it’s just a case of let’s try and focus on each game as it comes. I do get lots of messages saying, ‘Why didn’t you sign a contract?’ But that hasn’t been the case.
“I love it at this football club. I absolutely love it here. I think me being put on the bench was a selection issue, towards the end of Ian Evatt’s reign. But it was nothing to do with a contract. I absolutely love it here. I love living up here. I bought a house up here. I love this area. I love playing in front of these supporters.”
He added: “I love it here. I want to be here. And I want everyone to know that.”
Bolton Wanderers update regarding Nathan Baxter
Baxter rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea but never played for their first-team.
Instead, he had loan spells away from Stamford Bridge with the likes of Metropolitan Police, Solihull Moors, Woking, Yeovil Town, Ross County, Accrington Stanley and Hull City to get some experience.
Bolton Wanderers landed him a couple of years ago on a permanent basis and he has since been their number one.
They have a big decision to make regarding his long-term future at the ToughSheet Community Stadium and they risk losing him for nothing.
His situation with the Trotters may well depend on what league they find themselves in next season as they eye promotion to the Championship.
Baxter helped Bolton Wanderers reach the play-off final last year but they lost to Oxford United at Wembley.
He was linked with a move to Plymouth Argyle last summer after Michael Cooper’s exit to Sheffield United, as per reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, but ended up staying put.
What now for Bolton Wanderers?
Time will tell whether Baxter ends up sticking around with Bolton Wanderers.
They lost 1-0 at home to Stockport County over the weekend and play Blackpool away next.
