'Confident of a result' – Shrewsbury Town vs Charlton Athletic prediction: The72

Charlton Athletic head to Shrewsbury Town this weekend in their latest League One outing.

Charlton Athletic drew 1-1 at home with Rotherham United last time out. They have 10 points on the board from their first five fixtures of the new season.

The Addicks came flying out of the blocks and won their first three games against Wigan Athletic, Leyton Orient and Bolton Wanderers. They then lost 2-0 away at Reading before their draw with the Millers last Saturday.

Nathan Jones delved into the transfer window to bring in the likes of Greg Docherty, Gassam Ahadme, Will Mannion and Luke Berry, among others, to bolster his ranks. Promotion is the aim for the former Luton Town and Stoke City man this term.

As for Shrewsbury Town, they were beaten 3-0 by cross-border rivals Wrexham in their last fixture. They failed to build on an impressive win over Leyton Orient in the game prior.

Paul Hurst remains in charge of the Shrews and they will be eager to cause Charlton Athletic some problems. They have only once so far in this campaign and are sat in 21st position in the table.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

Charlton Athletic will want to return to winning ways this weekend after their last two results.

“The Addicks recruited well over the summer and have a strong squad for League One. They have plenty of competition and depth in their ranks and will be up there come the end of the season.

“This could be a tough game for the London club though against a Shrewsbury Town side who won 3-0 in their last home outing against Leyton Orient. They lost away at Wrexham though last time out.

“It won’t be easy for Nathan Jones’ side and they could slip up. However, I’m going to call it a narrow away win.”

Prediction: Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Charlton Athletic

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

James Ray

Charlton Athletic bounced back from the Reading defeat well to get a point against Rotherham United last time out. The Millers might not have started well, but they’re expected to be right up there this season, so it was a decent result for Nathan Jones and co.

“They should feel pretty confident of a result here too. Shrewsbury Town claimed a good win over Leyton Orient but the loss to rivals Wrexham will have been a blow, and they haven’t been impressive otherwise.

“If the Addicks are serious about fighting it out at the top end of the table this season, these are the away games they should be winning.

“I’ll back them to do just that.”

Prediction: Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Charlton Athletic
