'Have to bounce back' – Charlton Athletic vs Huddersfield Town prediction: The72

03/28/2025 04:08 AM
Charlton Athletic lock horns with Huddersfield Town at The Valley this weekend in their upcoming League One outing.
Charlton Athletic were beaten 3-0 away at Peterborough United in their last game. CAFC weren’t able to get anything from London Road which was a blow.
The Addicks are sat in 4th place in the table as they eye promotion to the Championship. They are inside the play-offs with Wycombe Wanderers, Stockport County and Huddersfield Town.
Nathan Jones’ side have 66 points on the board from 38 games. The London outfit now have eight fixtures left to get through this season.
As for Huddersfield Town, they occupy the final position in the top six. However, they have the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Leyton Orient and Reading chasing them down.
The Terriers have recently decided to part company with Michael Duff. Jon Worthington has been named as his replacement at the John Smith’s Stadium on a caretaker basis.
HTAFC were relegated from the second tier last year. They finished in the bottom three along with Birmingham City and Rotherham United.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Harry Mail
“Charlton Athletic will want to bounce back from their loss at Peterborough United. That was arguably their first major blip so far in 2025, with their only defeats in the league this year before that being against unpredictable Rotherham United and then runaway leaders Birmingham City.
“The Addicks have been a tough nut to crack since the turn of the year. Jones deserves credit for the work he has done at The Valley.
“Huddersfield Town will be tricky opponents for the hosts here and have some decent players. They won 5-1 at home to Crawley Town last time out so should be in confident mood.
“Charlton Athletic’s place in the play-offs is pretty much in the bag but the Terriers still have work to do. For that reason, I think they may get a draw in London.”
Prediction: Charlton Athletic 1-1 Huddersfield Town
James Ray
“There’s no hiding how important this game could prove to be in the play-off fight. Charlton Athletic have been fantastic over the second half of this season but the result and overall performance against Peterborough United was very disappointing.
“They have to bounce back quickly, but that is easier said than done against Huddersfield Town.
“The Terriers were rampant in their first game under caretaker boss Jon Worthington, albeit against a struggling Crawley Town side. They’ll be out to claim a big scalp here and give their top six hopes a major boost.
“Back on home turf though, I do lean towards a CAFC win. This could be a very close game but when the margins are so fine, I think the Addicks get it done.”
Prediction: Charlton Athletic 1-0 Huddersfield Town
