May benched again: Birmingham City team news and predicted XI to face Exeter City
Today at 04:49 AM
Birmingham City are back in League One action on Tuesday night with an away trip to St James Park to face Exeter City.
Birmingham City head into their game on the back of their 3-2 away loss at Shrewsbury Town last time out and they will be keen to bounce back.
They have slipped down to 4th in the table but have games in hand on the teams around them.
Chris Davies’ side face an Exeter City outfit who have the second best defensive record in the division behind Wrexham.
Birmingham City team news
As per a report by BirminghamLive, Birmingham City are without FC Twente loanee Alfons Sampsted. He picked up an injury over international duty with Iceland. Davies has said: “Unfortunately Sampsted has picked up a bit of a knock on his ankle. It looks like it will be a few weeks, he has rolled his ankle. It’s disappointing but he won’t be out too long.”
Wing pair Scott Wright and Emil Hansson are also sidelined. Davies said late last week: “They are on their way back from their knocks and pushing themselves – hopefully only a few weeks. They have made progress but they are still not quite there yet.”
Lee Buchanan hasn’t featured at all yet in this campaign but isn’t too far off returning.
Starting XI
Allsop; Laird, Klarer, Bielik, Cochrane; Paik, Iwata; Willumsson, Harris, Anderson; Stansfield
Ryan Allsop, who joined Birmingham City from Hull City in the last transfer window, has become their number one recently ahead of Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Ethan Laird should get the nod again at right-back ahead of Taylor Gardner-Hickman, with Sampsted out.
Alex Cochrane has been ever-present since his summer switch from Hearts but will face competition from Buchanan soon.
In the heart of the backline, Christoph Klarer and Krystian Bielik are usually preferred to Ben Davies and Dion Sanderson when fit.
Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata have been keeping Marc Leonard out of the Blues’ team and they will look to cause Exeter City some problems.
Further up the pitch, Willum Willumsson is likely to get the nod again with Wright and Hansson sidelined.
Luke Harris and Keshi Anderson have been getting plenty of minutes over recent times under the guidance of Davies.
Birmingham City have a decision to make about who to start up front. Jay Stansfield used to play for Exeter City and is expected to be in the starting XI ahead of Alfie May and Lyndon Dykes.
