Bolton Wanderers will be looking to strengthen this summer as they look to avoid further promotion disappointment in the 2024/25 campaign.

Bolton Wanderers were beaten in the play-off final by Oxford United, a year after going out at the semi-final stage at the hands of Barnsley.

As a result, another promising campaigns ended on a disappointing note for the Trotters. Having stated play-off heartbreak in back-to-back seasons, Ian Evatt and co will be determined to remove all doubt by finishing in the automatic promotion spots next time around.

Further additions will be on the radar to strengthen their promotion bid and one area that looks likely to be strengthened is up front. To do so, Bolton Wanderers should be among the clubs sizing up a loan for Tottenham Hotspur prospect Jude Soonsup-Bell.

A loan awaits?

It has been reported by The Mirror (Transfer news live, 25.06.24, 14:22) that Spurs talent Soonsup-Bell is in line for a loan move this summer as his parent club look to give him some valuable first-team experience. As such, plenty of EFL clubs have taken an interest.

None of his admirers are named, but there will likely be League One interest having been on the radars of three sides in the January window. Bolton Wanderers should be among them as they bid to bolster their attack.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Cameron Jerome are both moving on at the end of their contracts. Dion Charles, Victor Adeboyejo, Aaron Collins and Dan Nlundulu remain on the books and that could be enough, but having struggled with injuries last season, it would not be a surprise if Evatt wants another.

The Trotters have been a great club for promising young players to join on loan in recent seasons. That could make them an attractive destination for Soonsup-Bell, who lit up academy football last time around.

The 20-year-old played out wide and through the middle as he netted 12 goals and provided eight assists.

Recent loan success

As touched on before, the loan market has been a fruitful one for Bolton Wanderers in recent years.

Paris Maghoma was the standout of the temporary players last season, impressing away from Brentford. Caleb Taylor looked to be a positive signing before injury curtained his campaign while in previous seasons, James Trafford and Conor Bradley have found joy too.

It would be a big surprise if Wanderers didn’t look to replicate that success this summer. They can do so with the signing of the exciting and versatile Soonsup-Bell, who looks set to be playing EFL football in the new season.
