Sheffield Wednesday loanee Mallik Wilks is set to miss Rotherham United’s clash with Barnsley this weekend, Steve Evans has confirmed.

Sheffield Wednesdaysanctioned a summer exit for out-of-favour forward Mallik Wilks, with Rotherham United swooping to sign him on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

The 25-year-old had found limited action in the Championship with the Owls but has quickly become a regular starter for Steve Evans’ Millers.

Wilks has played a part in every League One game since moving to the AESSEAL New York Stadium, starting the last 12. In fact, the only game he has not played a part in was the 3-1 win over Newcastle United U21s in the EFL Trophy.

However, concerns were raised over the Sheffield Wednesday loanee when he pulled up against Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup. Now, it has been confirmed he’s set to miss Rotherham United’s Yorkshire derby with Barnsley.

“Mallik is unlikely to make Friday’s game,” Millers boss Evans told the Rotherham Advertiser.

“He was with the medical staff yesterday and he was inside. It’s nothing we see as major. The scan has shown there is no strain there. I would say it’s fatigue of the hamstring rather than a strain.”
