Stockport County goalkeeper Andrew Wogan has returned from his loan spell at Marine, as announced by their official club website.

Stockport County have decided to recall the stopper from his stint with the National League North outfit. The Hatters have now sent Max Metcalfe to the sixth tier outfit instead to take his place on a deal until the end of the season.

Wogan, 19, was given the green light to link up with Marine in late January. He went on to make 10 appearances for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions and made a positive impression by keeping six clean sheets.

In this latest update regarding his situation, the League One promotion hopefuls have confirmed that he is now back at Edgeley Park. They have a decision to make on what to do with him next and Metcalfe’s move to the Marine Travel Arena softens the Mariners’ blow of losing their recent number one.

Stockport County goalkeeper Andrew Wogan returns

Stockport County signed Wogan last year to boost their goalkeeping department.

He was brought in initially to join their Emerging Talents Programme and was snapped up as one for the future by the North West club.

The teenager penned a long-term four-year deal with the Hatters last summer following their promotion from League Two, with the option of a further 12 months on top of that.

Prior to his switch to England, he rose up through the academy ranks at Drogheda United and broke into their first-team at the age of just 17.

The Republic of Ireland youth international went on to play 40 matches before Stockport County swooped in.

He was loaned back out to the League of Ireland for the remainder of their 2024 season before officially linking up with Dave Challinor’s side.

After his transfer to the Hatters, their Head of Goalkeeping Nick Colgan told their website: “Andrew is someone we have been monitoring for some time. For a goalkeeper so young to have played the number of senior games he has is not only a testament to his ability, but also to his temperament.

“I am really excited by the goalkeeping department we have put together during the off-season, that will hopefully keep the club in safe hands for years to come. I look forward to welcoming Andrew into the group in November when the League of Ireland finishes and aiding in his development over the coming seasons.”

What now for Stockport County?

Stockport County are sat in the play-offs along with Wycombe Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town as they eye promotion to the Championship.

They are back in action this weekend against Burton Albion as they aim to bounce back from their loss to Wrexham.
