Birmingham City team news

As per a report by BirminghamLive, right-back Alfons Sampsted has picked up an injury on international duty with Iceland. Davies has said: “Unfortunately Sampsted has picked up a bit of a knock on his ankle. It looks like it will be a few weeks, he has rolled his ankle. It’s disappointing but he won’t be out too long.”

Wing pair Scott Wright and Emil Hansson remain in the treatment room. Davies said: “They are on their way back from their knocks and pushing themselves – hopefully only a few weeks. They have made progress but they are still not quite there yet.”

Meanwhile, Lee Buchanan is close to his return. His manager said: “Lee will potentially be involved in a fixture tomorrow (Friday) to give him some game exposure, it’s a behind-closed-doors type of thing.”

Starting XI

Allsop; Laird, Klarer, Bielik, Cochrane; Paik, Iwata; Willumsson, Anderson; May, Stansfield

Ryan Allsop has forced his way into Birmingham City’s team between the sticks ahead of Bailey Peacock-Farrell over recent weeks. He joined from Hull City in the last transfer window.

Ethan Laird and Alex Cochrane should get the nod at full-back again and both like to get up and down the flank. The latter will face competition for his place from Buchanan when he is fit again.

Christoph Klarer and Krystian Bielik are likely to be in the starting XI again ahead of Ben Davies and Dion Sanderson as they look to keep Shrewsbury Town at bay.

In midfield, Tomoki Iwata and Paik Seung-ho have formed a solid partnership and have kept Marc Leonard out of the line-up.

Willum Willumsson and Keshi Anderson will be eager to cause the Shrews some problems.

Jay Stansfield and Alfie May should get the nod again at the top end of the pitch, with Lyndon Dykes ready to play as well if needed.
