Blackburn Rovers target Kwame Poku’s situation is one Peterborough United‘have to be realistic’ with, Posh boss Darren Ferguson has said.

Blackburn Rovers had a busy summer transfer window but those at Ewood Park will already have a keen eye on areas they can improve their squad when January comes around.

John Eustace’s side are likely to be in the market for more depth in attacking positions. There have been calls to add some real pace to the frontline.

Amid those demands, links with a move for Peterborough United speedster Kwame Poku have emerged. The Ghanaian star can operate out wide or as an attacking midfielder and has managed seven goals and five assists in 15 outings this season.

His contract at London Road expires in 2025, so there are real doubts over his Posh future, handing hope to Blackburn Rovers and any of his other admirers.

Now, after a break in transfer speculation, Posh boss Darren Ferguson has addressed efforts to tie Poku down to a new deal, though he admitted they ‘have to be realistic’ about the position they find themselves in.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph about Blackburn Rovers target Poku and fellow sought-after out-of-contract ace Hector Kyprianou, Ferguson said:

“I’ve had some time off from transfer speculation, and now I guess I’m going to have two months of it again. It’s what happens at this club and I’m used to it.

“Of course we have tried to get Hector and Kwame to sign new deals and we will try again, but we have to be realistic about their situations.

“We would get some compensation for Kwame because of his age, but I’m not sure how much that would mean.”
