Blackpool secured the services of midfielder Lee Evans in the summer, bringing him in on a free transfer after his exit from Portsmouth.

Blackpool new boy Evans hasn’t had the easiest time of things over the past few years.

He spent a largely successful two-and-a-half years at Ipswich Town with six goals and six assists in 61 games but endured a glut of injury problems at Portman Road and was let go in February of this year.

Evans returned to the game in a short-term stay with Portsmouth less than a month later and he played in four games as they went on to win the League One title, but they decided not to keep him for the step up to the Championship.

The former Wales international will hope he can settle at new club Blackpool though, signing a two-year deal in the summer. The 30-year-old has had a swift impact at Bloomfield Road too, becoming a real creative force in the middle of the park.

Not only has Evans notched two goals and five assists in 14 games, but with Oliver Norburn and James Husband sidelined, the midfielder has captained the Tangerines in five of the last six League One games.

Now, speaking to Sky Bet exclusively on behalf of The72, Evans has spoken of his pride regarding the responsibility. He said:

“It’s a massive honour to captain Blackpool.

“It doesn’t really change the way I play – I try and be a leader whether I’ve got the armband or not and try and do it more by example than shouting and screaming on the pitch. I’m obviously one of the older heads in the squad now, so it’s about me passing on my experiences on to everyone.”
