Wigan Athletic have made a bid for Fleetwood Town captain Brendan Wiredu, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke.

Wigan Athletic will be hoping for a stronger second half of the season after failing to build on last season’s solid campaign.

The Latics fought back from a points deduction under Shaun Maloney in 2023/24 and were backed to kick on from there this time around. However, they currently sit 17th in the League One table with 27 points to their name from 23 games, leaving them seven points clear of the drop and 14 off the top six.

Winter business will be key to their bid to rising up the third-tier table and now, news of a fresh bid has emerged.

Writing on X, reporter Pete O’Rourke states that Wigan Athletic have lodged an offer for defender Brendan Wiredu. It is not said how much has been tabled at this stage, nor how Fleetwood Town have responded.

Wiredu signed a new contract in January last year and has been linked with a move away from the League Two side before. He’s under contract until the summer of 2026 as it stands and cuts a key figure at Highbury Stadium.
