Notts County host AFC Wimbledon in League Two this weekend as the Magpies aim to end a three-game winless run.

Notts County have their ambitions set on promotion this season after their push to reach League One fell flat during the last campaign.

Stuart Maynard’s side currently occupy 3rd spot in the table after an impressive start, though dropped points in each of their last two league outings against Port Vale and Chesterfield.

The Magpies lost 1-0 on home soil to the Valiants prior to rescuing a point late on against the Spireites as David McGoldrick struck to seal a 2-2 draw on their travels. A return to winning ways will be their mission on Saturday afternoon.

AFC Wimbledon, meanwhile, have also enjoyed a promising start to their campaign and sit 10th having only played eight matches so far.

Johnnie Jackson’s men have scored eight goals in their last two fixtures, firstly beating third tier Crawley Town 4-3 in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, followed up by an emphatic 4-0 victory over Carlisle United back in league action.

The Dons look capable of mounting a serious challenge for promotion this season and could make a huge statement at Meadow Lane should they return home with three points this weekend.

Here, a handful of our writers make their prediction for the game…

Jacob Hackett

Notts County will be hoping to avoid a similar fate to what they endured last season, so bouncing back against AFC Wimbledon would be just what the doctor ordered.

“It will not be that straightforward for the hosts, however, given the quality that Jackson’s side have shown so far this campaign.

“Looking at both sides’ recent results, you would certainly expect to see goals in this clash. Having said that, I would argue there is little to separate them.

“My gut feeling suggests a score draw on this occasion, with the Magpies frustratingly extending their winless stretch to four games.”

Prediction: Notts County 2-2 AFC Wimbledon

James Ray

Notts County are going through a bit of a dip in form and AFC Wimbledon are certainly good enough to make them pay if they’re not on their game.

“The Dons’ form on the road isn’t the best, but County have lost back-to-back home games by narrow scorelines as well. It makes for an intriguing game, and one I’m not sure there will be a winner in.

“I’ll say this one ends level at 1-1.”

Prediction: Notts County 1-1 AFC Wimbledon
