Tranmere Rovers boss Nigel Adkins has said they have held talks with ‘one or two’ targets recently as they gear up for the summer.

Tranmere Rovers are preparing for another year in League Two. They finished in 16th position last season with 57 points on the board.

The Whites are in the hunt for reinforcements as they look to compete in a higher position next term. They have a few vacancies to fill in their squad.

Adkins has provided this update on his official X account: “We’ve got several players in at Tranmere Rovers, obviously our season finished a couple of weeks ago but it’s a great opportunity today to get the majority of the players who are under contract for next year in, catch up with them because we all know talking is brilliant, and see how they are getting on.

“For the Tranmere Rovers supporters, we have been speaking to one or two targets so I’m sure we’ll keep everybody informed as and when required.”

Who is this?

Tranmere Rovers preparing for the summer

Tranmere Rovers turned to Adkins in September last year and he has since steadied the ship at Prenton Park.

The Birkenhead-born man is a vastly experienced manager in the Football League and has also had spells in the past at Scunthorpe United, Southampton, Reading, Sheffield United, Hull City and Charlton Athletic.

He will be keen to add more quality to his squad over the next couple of months as he looks to get the Whites back into League One.

Tranmere Rovers have seen loan players Rob Apter, James Norris and Jake Leake head back to Blackpool, Liverpool and Hull City respectively following the end of their respective deals.

Apter, 21, was a key player for them in the last campaign and scored 12 league goals so his absence will be felt.

Meanwhile, they confirmed on their retained list in late April that Jean Belehouan, Mikey Davies, Ben Hockenhull, Rhys Hughes, Charlie Jolley, Ousmane Kane, Luis Lacey, Paul Lewis, Reece McAlear, Dan Pike, Conor Robson, Joe Starbuck and Joe Yarney have all been released. Meanwhile, Luke Norris has penned a new deal.

What next for Tranmere Rovers?

Tranmere Rovers haven’t signed anyone yet but their various departures will free up space and funds for new additions.

As Adkins has alluded to, work is going on behind the scenes right now with targets and fans will be kept up to date when there are developments.
