As his contract runs down, Jonathan David's (24) future remains unclear. To the surprise of many, the Canada international remained at Lille OSC last summer, despite having just one year remaining on his contract. This season, he has continued to play a key role for LOSC, both in Ligue 1 and in the UEFA Champions League, netting key goals against the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.
Last summer, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus were all interested in the striker. Given that he will be available on a free transfer in just a matter of months, that interest has only increased.
David offered new deal at Lille
As per Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich are part of a pack of European giants chasing the Canada international, whilst in a recent interview with The Athletic, he revealed that his dream is to play for Barcelona.
However, if he is on the move, it won’t be imminent. Speaking on RMC Sport show After Foot, Lille’s president, Olivier Létang, ruled out a transfer in January, confirming that the striker would remain until the end of the season. “Jonathan David will not leave in January. He will stay with us because he is an important player,” he said, adding that a new contract offer had even been put to the Canadian. It remains to be seen whether that will get a positive response or whether he will choose to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
