Alisson Becker has entered his seventh season as a Liverpool player and is showing no signs of slowing down as he continues to cement his status as a club legend.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has won seven major trophies at Anfield since joining the club for a then world-record fee of £67m and is tied down at the club until 2027.

Alisson missed Liverpool’s last two games in all competition due to a hamstring injury but is likely to return to the starting XI as they travel to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ahead of the game, the experienced goalkeeper sat down for a wide-ranging interview and singled out one of Liverpool’s coaches for special praise.

Claudio Taffarel is one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation and is a FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil, having won the competition in 1994 while also emerging as a runner-up four years later.

He has served as Liverpool’s goalkeeping coach since 2021 and also works with Brazil in a similar capacity, due to which he has forged a close relationship with Alisson.

And the 31-year-old was full of praise for his compatriot as he went on to describe Taffarel as a ‘cool’ guy.

“I like to work hard, he knows that and he likes to work hard,” said Alisson on BBC Sport.

“We have a really good relationship as friends and it makes us harder with each other. He is a cool guy.

“We understand each other in the way we look to each other – [he is] a guy who helps me a lot. He is a model as a person and having him on my side, I am so lucky.”

What does the future hold for Alisson Becker?

The Brazilian is tied down at the club until 2027 and Liverpool have also agreed a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in the summer of 2025, indicating that his long-term future could come under question.

However, such claims were quickly put to bed as Alisson delivered a glowing verdict on Mamardashvili and confirmed that the club consulted with him before making a move for the Georgian goalkeeper.

The 31-year-old has repeatedly reiterated his desire to remain at the club, so his position at the club is not under threat despite the impending arrival of Mamardashvili.
