Arne Slot is set to end his first season in charge of Liverpool as Premier League champion, a feat few fans predicted at the start of the campaign.

A mixture of players hitting career-best form and league rivals falling off in dramatic fashion have all led to Liverpool marching towards only their second Premier League title, with Slot likely to get the job done with a few games remaining.

With Slot achieving records at Liverpool that even Klopp failed to manage, the Dutch coach has proven to be an inspired appointment by the Reds, who found their dream manager to continue the work left by the German legend at Anfield.

And former England manager Fabio Capello has now shared his verdict on Slot’s first season at Liverpool.

Arne Slot praised for ‘incredible’ spell after succeeding Jurgen Klopp

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the legendary Italian coach praised Slot for how well the former Feyenoord manager has taken to life at Liverpool, with even one of the most respected names in football taken aback by the Dutchman’s impact.

With Slot having big plans to improve Liverpool during the summer, there’s a real chance that the Reds can go one step further than their impressive achievements this season, with success in Europe and the domestic cup competitions the next objective.

And for Capello, the former AC Milan and Real Madrid manager has been impressed with Slot’s work, with the Italian liking the Liverpool coach’s start to life at Anfield to his own experience at the San Siro with the Rossoneri.

Capello said: “To do this after Jurgen Klopp, who I liked, is incredible. It's a bit like my career. I arrived at AC Milan after Arrigo Sacchi and everyone said the team is finished, that they don't like to work any more, they had won too many trophies. I think it's more or less the same.”

What are Arne Slot’s realistic goals for next season at Liverpool?

Slot’s first season at Liverpool will go down as an overwhelming success even after the past week that saw the Reds crash out of the UEFA Champions League and lose the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United.

And heading into his sophomore year at Liverpool, Slot will aim to flesh out his squad with players he can actually trust as the Merseyside giants looks to compete all the way in the competitions away from the Premier League.

Indeed, retaining the title will also be key for Slot, with no Liverpool manager yet to win the Premier League on more than one occasion since the top-flight’s rebrand over 30 years ago.
