'Big worry': Jamie Carragher says Liverpool could have a major problem after 2-2 Manchester United draw
Yesterday at 02:00 AM
Liverpool drew 2-2 with Manchester United as the Reds were unable to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.
A thrilling encounter at Anfield saw Amad Diallo rescue a late point for the Red Devils as Liverpool failed to keep hold of their 2-1 lead heading into the final ten minutes of the match, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah on the scoresheet for the hosts.
With Michael Owen lauding Virgil van Dijk for his honesty on Liverpool’s performance, the Anfield side will be frustrated with how their performance against United unfolded, especially when the form of the two teams going into the match is considered.
And Jamie Carragher has now said something is beginning to worry him about Liverpool after yesterday’s result.
Carragher worried about Liverpool’s leaky defence
Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender noted that the amount of goals the Reds are now conceding could become a problem in the second-half of the season, with Slot’s side keeping just three clean sheets in December in all competitions.
Having started the season in incredible defensive form, fatigue and a lack of consistency is now starting to affect Liverpool, with Newcastle United and Tottenham both managing to score three goals past the Merseyside giants.
And last night’s draw against United could be another cause of concern for Liverpool, with Carragher worried that yesterday’s defensive performance could be a hint of what’s to come later on in the season at the back.
Carragher said: "The big worry for me now is Liverpool are starting to concede goals. Liverpool are the best team in this league and have a lot more goals and attacking talent than Arsenal. But watching that game the thing that will give you a lift is that you saw Liverpool concede goals and chances."
Liverpool need defensive reinforcements this January
Defensive signings were needed back in the summer transfer window, and the same can be said and more this January with Liverpool in a great position to make a number of moves in the winter market.
And rumours suggest that the Reds could make a signing or two at the back, with Liverpool still linked with Argentina talent Julio Soler as the Anfield side continue to keep tabs on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Indeed, every fan knows that defensive signings are needed this January, and Liverpool need to bring in one or two players if they’re to strengthen their Premier League title claims in the coming months with the fixture schedule about to become even more hectic.
