Liverpool are still in a good position in the Premier League title race despite their 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Anfield.

The Reds are six points clear of Nottingham Forest and Arsenal at the top of the table, although they have a chance to increase the gap to nine if they win their game in hand.

The game against Manchester United produced some intriguing talking points, with Alexis Mac Allister, in particular, getting some rave reviews for his performance.

And Arne Slot has singled out the Argentine midfielder for special praise ahead of the EFL Cup semifinal against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.

The former Brighton midfielder started alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones in the centre of the park and produced one of his best performances of the season.

Jamie Carragher described Mac Allister’s performance vs Manchester United as ‘fantastic’ as he showed his class at both ends of the pitch.

The midfielder recently received an unexpected break midway through the season as he missed the games against Fulham and Girona due to suspensions.

And when asked by Slot if Mac Allister’s break rejuvenated him, Slot claimed he didn’t really need it as he has been outstanding throughout the season.

“No, because he played outstanding before!” said Slot in his pre-Tottenham Hotspur press conference.

“I can’t remember him playing a bad game – he’s so consistent. He’s so involved in every game we play. So important defensively.

“For me, every player benefits for long term having a period off. I was happy I could give this to him. Hopefully, it’ll give him more consistent performances in Feb and March.”

Mac Allister crucial to Liverpool’s trophy hopes

Barring his two-game suspension, Mac Allister has featured in every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game under Slot this season, which is a sign that he’s an indispensable asset for the Dutchman.

Aside from keeping it tidy in midfield and setting the tempo of the game, he has also notched up six goal contributions this season, making him a useful asset in front of goal.

Liverpool will hope to keep Mac Allister fit and firing as they continue to compete on all fronts between now and the end of the season.
