'Brilliant': Alan Shearer says there was one Liverpool player vs Brentford who was 'outstanding'

Liverpool secured one of their most dramatic and important wins of the Premier League season after a 2-0 result away to Brentford.

Darwin Nunez’s record-breaking performance was what finally got the Reds over the line as Arne Slot’s side had nearly 40 shots against the Bees in what was a dominant performance in west London.

With Arsenal also drawing with Aston Villa, the Anfield side restored their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand, with Paul Merson saying Liverpool now have the title in their hands after this weekend’s results.

Trent Alexander-Arnold lauded after ‘outstanding’ Liverpool display

Speaking on the Rest of Football, the Premier League legend was full of praise for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s display against the west London side, with the defender at his creative best against Brentford and proving to be a real threat on Saturday.

Shearer said when talking about Liverpool’s win against Brentford: “Trent Alexander-Arnold was brilliant as well, he was outstanding. I know Nunez will get the headlines for the goals, but Trent was superb again, he’s fantastic, really good.”

With Steve McManaman also in awe with Alexander-Arnold’s performance, the England international showed why he is rightfully regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and in a league of his own in the right-back position.

Yet with Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold only intensifying, Liverpool fans are aware that this is likely to be the fullback’s last year at Anfield, with the 26-year-old departing Merseyside arguably at the peak of his powers.

Who else impressed for Liverpool vs Brentford?

Nuenz and Alexander-Arnold were the stars for Liverpool in their 2-0 win away to Brentford, with the result potentially the biggest yet for the Reds in their quest this season to win the Premier League title once again.

Yet it wasn’t just the aforementioned duo who turned up for Slot in west London, with the Liverpool manager lauding Harvey Elliott for his cameo from the bench as the England international played a key role in Nunez’s late brace.

With John Aldridge also praising Federico Chiesa for his appearance, there were a number of positive takeaways from Liverpool’s win away to Brentford, a game that could be defining in the Reds’ bid for Premier League success.
