Darwin Nunez was the hero for Liverpool on Saturday as the Merseyside giants secured a massive 2-0 win against Brentford.

The Uruguay international bagged two stoppage-time goals as Nunez created Premier League history in what was an extraordinary game for Liverpool, who despite having nearly 40 shots against Brentford nearly came away from west London with just a point.

However, Liverpool’s no. 9 came up clutch at the right moment for Arne Slot’s side, with Nigel Reo-Coker saying Nunez’s brace against Brentford could be the striker’s most important set of goals yet during his Anfield career.

And new footage has shown Nunez doing something quite humorous after the full-time whistle with Brentford’s goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

Nunez seen apologising to Flekken after full-time

As per Inside Liverpool, Nunez is heard saying: “I’m sorry” to the Dutch international inside the tunnel after full-time, with the striker’s apology resulting in a huge laugh from Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who was also speaking with his fellow countryman.

With Nunez’s Liverpool future up in the air, moments like this will remind supporters why the former Benfica striker is as beloved as he is, with the forward’s personality both on and off the field nothing short of infectious.

Indeed, Nunez was praised by Van Dijk after his match-winning heroics for the Reds with the 25-year-old attacker needing this sort of performance arguably more than any other player in the Liverpool squad this season.

And with Nunez in high spirits after the match with Brentford’s goalkeeper, this display could well be the start of something new for the striker if he can continue to ride this wave heading into upcoming games for the Merseyside giants.

And with Nunez enjoying his finest hour yet as a Liverpool player, the Uruguay international will be ready to take on whoever is in front of him, with a UEFA Champions League tie against LOSC Lille coming up next for the Reds.

With big games against AFC Bournemouth and Tottenham in the League Cup also on the horizon, Liverpool know they will need every player to be at their absolute best if they’re to go all the way for the quadruple, with Slot hopeful that Nunez has indeed turned a corner at last for the Reds.
