'I think': Gary Lineker predicts who is going to win the PL this season and whether Liverpool will hold on

The Premier League title race saw one of its most important weekends of the season unfold as Liverpool re-established their six-point lead at the top of the table.

A dramatic 2-0 win against Brentford thanks to record-breaking heroics from Darwin Nunez coupled with Arsenal drawing 2-2 at home to Aston Villa despite being 2-0 up has seen the title race swing massively in Liverpool’s favour.

Even with Nottingham Forest and Manchester City also winning, Arne Slot’s side are in as strong a position as before to go all the way in the league, with Paul Merson saying the Premier League title is now Liverpool’s to lose.

And Gary Lineker has now shared his verdict on who will win the league this season.

Liverpool labelled as clear favourites for the Premier League title

Speaking on the Rest is Football, the Match of the Day pundit said he would be ‘surprised’ if Liverpool didn’t go all the way to win the Premier League this season after this weekend’s results, with the Anfield side the leading favourite for the championship.

Lineker said: “I think it’s hard to envision them letting this slip. We know things can happen and things can change, but they’ve got a big, very strong squad and replacements in all positions, and they’ve got belief and momentum and a coach who knows what he’s doing.

“It’s hard to see really, because who’s going to come from behind and win every game like you’d have to do? City are probably too far back, even if Liverpool slip a bit, which they don’t look like doing anyway. I’d be incredibly surprised if they don’t go all the way.”

Indeed, Liverpool have never been in a more comfortable position at the top of the Premier League standings this season with the Reds six points clear of Arsenal and Forest with a game in hand, yet as Slot and his players will know, things can still change very quickly.

Who do Liverpool face next in the Premier League?

it was only a few days ago when Arsenal were supposedly back on track in the title race having beaten Tottenham midweek a day after Liverpool drew 1-1 away to fellow title rivals Forest.

Yet with the ball now back in Liverpool’s court, the Reds know they can’t afford to slip up again given how sketchy some of their upcoming Premier League games look on paper, namely away trips to AFC Bournemouth and Everton.

With Manchester City also on the agenda next month, Liverpool will have to be flawless if they’re to build from their current lead on Arsenal and Forest, with the next five games as important as they come for the Reds.
