Trent Alexander-Arnold has been the most talked-about player in world football over the past 48 hours as speculation surrounding his Liverpool future continues to dominate the back pages.

With his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, Liverpool are in talks to tie him down to a new contract.

In the meantime, Real Madrid have made their move to sign Alexander-Arnold as early as the January transfer window.

And now, Carlo Ancelotti has had his say on whether the Spanish giants will make any signings in the January transfer window, which could have serious repercussions for Liverpool.

Over the years, Real Madrid have refrained from splashing the cash midway through the season even when they had a handful of injury issues to deal with.

They’ve encountered a similar problem this season, with Dani Carvajal out with an ACL injury and the likes of Lucas Vasquez and Eder Militao flattering to deceive at right back.

Their interest in Alexander-Arnold is well documented, but no one expected them to make a move to sign him in January, although Liverpool swiftly rejected their approach and confirmed that he is not for sale.

When quizzed about January signings, Ancelotti remained coy on the matter, although he kept the door open after the reigning La Liga champions made a move for Alexander-Arnold.

“January signings? It’s a bit more complicated to talk about this. We’ll see, we’ll see. Talking about this is not easy at the moment.

“I said that we will not sign anyone in January before? Look, I can’t talk about it now. This is not the time and place.”

What next for Alexander-Arnold?

Real Madrid are expected to make a second move for Alexander-Arnold, but once again, the answer from Liverpool is expected to be a firm no regardless of the offer.

The Reds remain in talks to tie him down to a new contract and although Real Madrid have made a move, multiple journalists and publications have confirmed that Alexander-Arnold has shown no indication that he wants to leave.

A saga like this midway through the season isn’t good for anyone involved, so Liverpool will look to resolve it at the earliest as they look to tie down one of their most important players for the long haul.
