'Confident': Liverpool now really think they're in the lead to sign 'exceptional' talent - Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool are beginning to make their first moves in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have so far been unusually quiet since the end of the season. They’d usually have some business done by now.

There are obviously good reasons for Liverpool keeping their powder dry, though. The Reds are giving Arne Slot some time to figure out his Liverpool squad.

With most of the players not yet back at the AXA Training Centre for pre-season, it may still be a few weeks before Liverpool’s transfer plans really start to take shape.

In the meantime though, the Reds are always planning for how they can maintain the standard of their squad for the future. This has led to some incredibly exciting arrivals to the Liverpool academy.

Liverpool in the lead to sign Rio Ngumoha

Liverpool have earned quite the reputation for bringing young players through over the past 12 months or so.

Obviously, the Reds academy is world renowned having produced the likes of Steven Gerrard, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jamie Carragher.

However, it is fair to say that the youth teams have been going through something of a dry spell in terms of producing top level talent.

With Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley and more coming through now though, that looks like being a thing of the past.

Alongside the likes of Quansah and Bradley, Liverpool have become experts at targeting and signing the best young talent from around the rest of the country.

Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo were poached from Leicester and West Ham respectively last year with Alvin Ayman set to join Liverpool from Wolves, too. The Reds have high hopes for all three.

Now though, Liverpool look like they’re about to top it of with the signing of Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea. Having broken the news on Monday, journalist Fabrizio Romano took to X on Tuesday to provide an update on Ngumoha’s transfer.

“Rio Ngumoha, ready to complete his move to Liverpool as exclusively revealed yesterday with final details being discussed,” says Romano.

“Formal steps to follow with Liverpool really confident to make it happen as they’ve been leading the race for one week.”

Chelsea ‘furious with Liverpool poach’

Liverpool’s drive to bring the country’s biggest talents to Anfield over recent years has been really impressive.

The Reds now have an academy absolutely stacked with players who could supplement the first-team for Slot.

But if the hype surrounding Ngumoha turns out to be with good cause, then Liverpool may be about to bring the best of the lot to the club.

Despite being just 15, Ngumoha has been deemed ‘exceptional‘ by renowned talent spotter The Secret Scout on X.

With his reputation really proceeding him, it’s no wonder that Chelsea are furious with Liverpool over the poaching of one of their top young talents.

Let’s hope this all gets boxed off soon and Liverpool can welcome a young player who we’ll surely soon hear much more about.
