Liverpool bagged their first Premier League win of 2025 after seeing off a stubborn Brentford side at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Reds had looked all set for a third successive draw of the new year after failing to but the ball past Mark Flekken.

But with the clock having ticked over the 90 minute mark and into four minutes of injury-time, Darwin Nunez latched onto Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross to finally give Liverpool the lead.

Just seconds later, Nunez was at it again, hammering home a pass from Harvey Elliott to seal the points for Liverpool.

And putting the Reds seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table was not the Uruguayan’s only prize of the night.

As it turns out, Nunez’s first strike of the evening made him the first man in the history of the Premier League to score three winning goals away from home.

Darwin Nunez breaks Premier League record

How fitting it was that Nunez was the man to break Brentford hearts and send the travelling Liverpool support into dreamland.

The 25-year-old has had such a rough time of late, but nobody will care about that just now.

Arne Slot came out in defence of Nunez before Saturday’s game and he was certainly right to do so. Darwin repaid him in spades.

And as per statistician Michael Reid on X, the No.9’s winner against Brentford was actually even more special than it first seemed.

“No player in Premier League history has scored more 90th-minute winners away from home than Darwin Nunez (3),” says Reid.

Having scored injury-time clinchers away to Newcastle and Nottingham Forest last season, Nunez is becoming something of a lucky charm for Liverpool.

More records tumble for Liverpool

Nunez’s record was not the only one set by Liverpool on Saturday. As per Opta on X, the Reds’ 37 shots on Brentford’s goal was the most by an away side since record began in 2003.

Liverpool absolutely peppered Flekken with efforts throughout the 90 minutes, with Nunez finally breaking the Dutch ‘keeper’s resistance.

Another post from Reid brought yet more fascinating insight, with the stat-man posting a second, rather more niche fact about Nunez’s two goals.

“Darwin Nunez is just the second substitute to score both goals of a 2-0 league win in LFC’s history, after David Fairclough v Burnley in March 1976,” he says.

What a night for Nunez.
