'Displeased': Steve McManaman says Arne Slot will be worried about what he saw from Liverpool vs Southampton
Today at 02:00 AM
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League standings to eight points with a dramatic 3-2 win against Southampton.
Arne Slot’s side had to come from 2-1 down to secure all three points on the south coast, with Mohamed Salah once again the hero for Liverpool as the Egyptian international scored two late goals to overturn the scoreline for the visitors.

With Jamie Carragher taking aim at Ibrahima Konate’s performance for Liverpool, it was a game to forget for the Anfield side, who were far from their best against a Premier League side who have been amongst the worst in the top-flight this season.
And Steve McManaman has said Slot will be worried about what he saw from Liverpool.
Liverpool ‘average’ in dramatic win vs Southampton
Speaking to Premier League Productions, the pundit shared how ‘average’ he thought Liverpool were against Southampton, with McManaman noting that the game changed for the Reds when Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister were brought on.
Although Carragher felt Darwin Nunez should have come off instead of Cody Gakpo, Liverpool looked like a different team with the introduction of the South American duo, yet McManaman still thinks the Anfield side were far below their usual best at St. Mary’s.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid star said: “I thought they [Liverpool] were only okay, I thought they were average. They were better when the two substitutions were made when they were losing 2-1.
“A great result but their performance as a whole I think he’ll [Arne Slot] will be displeased. It’s a typical away performance after an international break. The most important thing for the fans is the table and it was Mo Salah to the rescue, again.”
Liverpool will have to be better if they’re to beat Real Madrid and Manchester City
Liverpool might have come away with all three points against Southampton, but things aren’t getting any easier for the Reds, who this week face arguably their two biggest tests of the season so far.
Real Madrid make the trip to Anfield in what could be the headline fixture in this year’s UEFA Champions League league phase, with Manchester City also making the trip to Merseyside on the weekend, where Liverpool could go 11 points clear at the top of the standings.
Indeed, Liverpool’s season could be defined by what happens in the next six days, and the Reds will need to be better if they’re to win the next two games against Madrid and City.
