Everything's the Best: Festive Fun
It's all eyes on London as Liverpool look to keep their festive outlook as rosy as Santa's cheeks.
Liverpool are top of the English Premier League table and while the point gap has narrowed to 2 points - with the possibility that they're behind by a point to Chelsea at kick-off - I don't think there's a sense of panic around Merseyside. And that is, in large part, due to the fact that this team just continues to put in the kind of mature performances that one would come to expect from a squad that is seeking to challenge in all competitions.
As it stands, Liverpool are top of the league, the Champions League, and have booked their ticket to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. They are truly flying high at the moment.
Waiting for them in the semi-finals are their opponents later today: Tottenham Hotspur. As we've mentioned elsewhere, this iteration of Spurs are an incredibly volatile lot. Capable of beating anyone on their day, Ange Postecoglu's men are equally likely to wilt and allow a deluge of chances. Which is to say: it wouldn't surprise to see the Reds down 2 early and I wouldn't count us out even if we were still down with 10 minutes to go.
Which should make for precisely the kind of fast-paced, stomach-turning, all-action kind of match that makes this time of year among my favorites. I'm already prone by way of a few things - though, largely, it's my sentimentality - to love this time of year. But when you add all of the football that's on offer? Whew. Tough to pick a better time of the year for me.
So what I'm looking most forward to in this moment, besides turning off all alarms and setting my out of office auto-responder to on, is this. Come what may in a few hours, we'll have an incredibly clear picture of where Liverpool are in terms of what must be 1a in terms of their prioritized ambitions for this season. And by this time next week, we'll be looking right at the halfway mark.
Let's keep fighting, Reds! See you on Boxing Day!
