Exclusive: Liverpool now set to reward £50m player with new contract after good start to season

Contract discussions have been dominating the landscape at Liverpool throughout the course of the season so far.
Three of the biggest stars in the Liverpool squad are set to see their terms expire at the end of the current campaign.
As things stand, all three of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are set to leave the Reds next June. These are nervous times for Liverpool supporters.
For the moment, there is seemingly little to report on the headline trio, with suggestions that talks will ramp up over the October international break.
Meanwhile, there are a number of other situations slowly developing regarding contracts at Anfield. One of those is in regards to Luis Diaz, with Liverpool now set to take decisive action with the Colombian.
Luis Diaz set for new Liverpool contract
Diaz has had a good start to the season for Liverpool. After a slightly patchy campaign last time out, the 27-year-old has hit the ground running under Arne Slot.
His good form comes on the back of a summer in which Diaz was strongly linked with a move to Barcelona.
But after the £50m signing stayed put, Rousing The Kop understands that Liverpool are now progressing with a new contract for Diaz.
The Reds are currently in the process of sitting down with their No.7 in order to thrash out an extension for him.

It is understood that Liverpool were a little frustrated with Diaz’s entourage after they publicly angled for the former Porto man to join Barcelona over the summer.
However, Liverpool’s frustration did not stretch to Diaz himself, and having been happy with the way the winger is now performing under Slot, the Reds are moving forward with fresh terms.
Should talks go as planned, it is thought to be distinctly likely that Diaz signs his deal before the end of 2024.
What about the other three?
While Diaz’s future at Liverpool looks set to be resolved in the near future, Reds supporters will be hoping the same outcome will also befall Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah.
And Rousing The Kop understands that along with Diaz, Liverpool are placing priority on sorting Alexander-Arnold’s contract.
Nothing is thought to be imminent with the Liverpool academy graduate, but the Reds are pushing for him to stay.
As for Van Dijk and Salah, it is understood that Liverpool are taking a more relaxed approached, with Diaz and Alexander-Arnold set to be sorted out first.
From there, it still remains to be seen what the longer-term plan is for Liverpool’s captain and superstar winger.
