Liverpool's summer signing wasn't judged match fit to make the bench against Nottingham Forest but could make his debut on Tuesday.

Having been frozen out at AC Milan before making his move to Liverpool in the final week of the summer transfer window, Federico Chiesa has yet to make his debut for his new team and head coach Arne Slot and there was some surprise he wasn't on the bench this past weekend.

Having been judged not be ready to play a role against Nottingham Forrest, a match that saw an unchanged eleven looking leggy and out of ideas in a shock 1-0 home defeat, the expectation now is three weeks after arriving on Merseyside, Chiesa will at least make the bench on Tuesday.

When faced with questions about integrating his new signing last week as he prepared his side to face Forest, Slot noted, "Federico has trained with the team now three or four times [but] we have more than 20 players for a position. I choose the ones that are the fittest at the moment."

It will be interesting to see how Slot uses his enviable depth, including Chiesa, in the coming months with the Reds set to play two a week for the forseeable future—something Slot wouldn't have dealt with at Feyenoord and with the lack of changes against Forest raising some concerns.
