Liverpool are busy planning their annual Legends clash with Chelsea the opponents in 2025.

It’s always great to see former Reds turn out in the latest kit to raise money for the LFC Foundation every March.

Last year saw the return of Fernando Torres, with the Spaniard healing some old wounds and grabbing himself a Kop end goal against Ajax Legends.

Torres was keen to come back again, but with the 40-year-old now in a new job with the Atletico Madrid B team it remains to be seen whether he will be given the call.

With every year bringing some new, old faces, it’s likely that there will be a few surprises for the watching crowd at Anfield.

In the meantime, five ‘Liverpool legends‘ have already been announced as being part of the squad.

First five announced for Liverpool legends

The first thing to know about the legends clashes is that the word ‘legend’ is used very loosely indeed.

While some such as regular attendee Steven Gerrard are genuine heroes of the club, many who turn out are not.

Nevertheless, it is always nice to see which players make the effort to come and raise money for a brilliant cause.

This time, liverpoolfc.com have already revealed that three heroes of the Champions League win in 2005 will be coming along.

Goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has been a regular over the years and will be back for another run next March. Djimi Traore has played before as well and will do so again, while Djibril Cisse has often been a goal scorer in these occasions.

Meanwhile, Robbie Keane will make his legends debut, while left-back Fabio Aurelio – who was injured in the 2024 edition – is another to have been given the call.

Who else could play?

While it’s great to see the first names on the list for the game in March, these are not players who will massively excite supporters.

Like with Torres last year, though, it’s probable that the club will wait before revealing some of the bigger names who will take part.

Gerrard will likely be back again despite his managerial duties with Al Ettifaq, with the likes of Luis Garcia, Jay Spearing and Vladimir Smicer regular attendees.

For Chelsea, there is set to be many familiar faces as the Reds mark 20 years since the infamous Champions League semi-final in 2005.

Keep your eyes peeled for further announcements ahead of what will be a great occasion.
