Liverpool drew 2-2 against Manchester United, with the Reds missing out on the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

A late Amad Diallo equaliser ruined any hopes Arne Slot’s side had of claiming all three points, with Liverpool arguably lucky to come away with a draw after Harry Maguire missed a golden chance to win the game for United with the final kick of the match.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold criticised heavily by Roy Keane for his defensive performance, Liverpool’s problems at the back were laid bare for all to see by the world, with Jamie Carragher worried about the issues we’re now starting to see.

Liverpool told to replace Andy Robertson after poor United performance

Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the match, Carragher voiced his concerns over Andy Robertson, with the former Liverpool defender highlighting how the Scottish international looks like he’s ‘hanging on in every game’.

With Michael Owen criticising Robertson for his performance against Leicester City, the 30-year-old defender’s form has fallen off a cliff this season, and Carragher believes Liverpool need to be proactive this month and sign a replacement with the January window now open.

Carragher said: “Liverpool need to sign a full-back. I think they need a left-back. Trent Alexander-Arnold was really poor. He will be a lot better than that and Connor Bradley is fantastic. I just think Andy Robertson, who is an absolute legend, is just hanging on in every game.

“I don't think Konstantinos Tsimikas is quite of the standard to come in and replace him. I think if Liverpool could get a left back in January, I think that'd put Liverpool in a really strong position to win the league.”

Which left-backs have Liverpool been linked with this January?

Left-back is one of four positions Liverpool will look to strengthen in 2025, with Robertson’s form coupled with Kostas Tsimikas’ injuries making the area of the field a priority for Slot and his team.

Yet current rumours suggest that the Reds are in the market for a left-back, with AFC Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez the current favourite for Liverpool as a potential signing, though a deal in January could be hard to complete.

Fulham star Antonee Robinson had been strongly linked with Liverpool leading into January, but this deal also looks unlikely on the basis of the USA international’s age and how much the west London side will likely demand for the defender.
