'Hard to believe': Paul Scholes says Trent Alexander-Arnold did something vs Manchester United that was 'pathetic'

Liverpool could only manage a draw against Manchester United, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance coming into the spotlight.
The England international endured one of his hardest games to date with Diogo Dalot constantly beating his Liverpool rival down the flank, with Roy Keane slating Alexander-Arnold for his display at Anfield on Sunday.
With Jamie Carragher saying Alexander-Arnold will be hoping Real Madrid didn’t watch last night’s game, the 26-year-old did little to win himself any favours with Liverpool fans amid new rumours surrounding the fullback’s future.
And Paul Scholes says one thing Alexander-Arnold did against United left the Premier League legend frustrated.
Alexander-Arnold slammed for ‘pathetic’ reaction after conceding goal
Speaking on Premier League Productions, the former United midfielder was critical of Alexander-Arnold for his ‘pathetic’ reaction to Liverpool going 1-0 down, a goal that only happened because of the defender’s lack of awareness in the moment.
Although Chris Sutton tried to defend Alexander-Arnold’s performance for Liverpool, many would agree that the England international had a game to forget against United, and Scholes didn’t hold back when analysing the right-back’s display at Anfield.

Scholes said: “When you look at this Liverpool team you think: ‘Where are Liverpool’s weaknesses defensively?’ and I always think it’s both fullbacks. I thought Robertson, who’s had a shaky few weeks, was actually alright today, but Trent is capable of that, we’ve seen that a lot.
“We know how good he is and how influential he can be with his balls into players, but defending like that in a Manchester United game at Anfield is something you find hard to believe, it’s almost blasé really, and his reaction to it was nothing short of pathetic.”
Alexander-Arnold needs a big response after United nightmare
January is set to be a massive month for Liverpool, with a League Cup semi-final series against Newcastle United starting this week with the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League also returning for the Reds.
And for Alexander-Arnold, this month will present itself as a massive one for the defender’s Liverpool career, with all signs pointing towards the 26-year-old leaving Anfield, putting pressure on the right-back to perform.
Indeed, Alexander-Arnold could be a key reason behind Liverpool winning silverware this season, and the defender will want to prove his quality and to get fans back on his side after a dismal few days in the limelight.
