Elliott spoke on Darwin's goals to secure the win against Brentford, and the squad's plans for the rest of the season - keep winning.

Liverpool's late win against Brentford on Saturday was only possible through the late subs, which might sound like common sense. Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliott came on in the second half, and it was Elliott that assisted Núñez for the second goal to take it from relief to real joy.

Elliott hasn't had many opportunities this season, due in part to injury and other parts to squad competition, but made the most of his short time on the pitch. In speaking to the club website Elliott reiterated the point that it's not about him, and everyone wants to contribute to the ambitions of the season.

"I think it just sums up this team. Everyone has so much love for one another. We're not a team, we're a family and whoever scores, whoever is playing, whoever is not playing, we're all together as one and we want to do everything for the club," Elliott said following the match.

"We have high ambitions this season and we all need to play a part, but as I said, whoever scores, it's just an amazing feeling as a team. Celebrating with not only your teammates but your friends, people that you're close with, it's just great.

"He [Núñez] is a great guy and his hunger and desire on the pitch, you can't fault him – as you can see in each and every game."

Much has been said about his performance this season and his place in the squad, but Darwin's celebrations clearly showed how much the goals meant to him, to finally be the hero after a long stretch of missed chances and frustrating appearances.

"I just thought, I already knew he was going to get a yellow card for taking his shirt off so I didn't want him to do anything else and get a red card because we needed him! But it's just raw emotion, especially in front of the away supporters as well," the midfielder explained.

"There's no better feeling than scoring goals and winning games and just to celebrate in front of our fans is just a moment you can't really describe. As I said, it's a team game: whether you're starting or on the bench, you need to be ready. It's a matter of fact. You don't know when you're going to be called upon – it could be games, it could be each and every game you're starting.

"We're aiming for high ambitions this season and we need to do it all as a team. It's just not 11 players constantly playing, everyone needs to be involved and so many people have influenced the game from the bench if they haven't played and today's one of those games.

"Darwin comes on and scores two and it's the situation: I think it shows to everyone that no matter what the situation you need to be ready because the chances will come and you just need to take them like today."

The win ensured Liverpool keep their gap at the top of the table from shrinking, a result that could prove influential as we move through the season towards the title.

"I don't think we're looking that far ahead at the moment. We're just taking it game by game and just making sure that we win," Elliott continued.

"It's more of a confidence booster for us now to go into the next game and as I said, we're just keeping taking it game by game and hopefully getting points on the board and then at the end of the season we can look back and single out games like today where special moments happened.

"We can reflect on it then but the job is nowhere near done, it's still very early. We just need to keep going and keep pushing and we'll review it at the end of the season."
