Liverpool are no closer to sorting out the futures of three of their biggest stars.

The Reds have been excellent on the pitch so far this season, with Arne Slot seemingly picking up where Jurgen Klopp left off with the Reds.

But while things have been ticking along nicely in terms of results, Liverpool supporters are growing nervous over the prospect of exits for Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

All three are out of contract at Anfield next summer and as of yet there has been no movement at all on new deals for any of the trio.

None will be short of interest should they be up for grabs at the end of the season. Alexander-Arnold is attracting interest from Real Madrid, while Salah and Van Dijk have been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia.

The veteran pair have been in terrific form this season, though, showing signs that they can play at much higher level for a little while yet. Now, journalist Graeme Bailey has weighed in on whether Salah in particular could look to prolong his career in Europe away from Liverpool.

European stay unlikely for Mohamed Salah

Salah has five goals in eight games for Liverpool already this season. He looks set for another campaign as the Reds’ top scorer.

Although the Egyptian was off-colour against Wolves on Saturday he still got his goal. Liverpool will find it incredibly difficult to replace a player as prolific as Salah.

If they do let him walk out of the Anfield exit door, though, if it is towards a move to Saudi Arabia, it will perhaps hurt a little less.

Players like Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have regressed noticeably since moving to the Middle East and have ultimately proven that it was the right time to let them go. The same may happen to Salah.

However, there have been claims that Salah does not want to end up like Mane and is convinced that he can still make a difference for a top European side.

But speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, transfer expert Bailey claims that it is unlikely that the 32-year-old would move anywhere other than Saudi Arabia if his time at Liverpool does come to an end next summer.

“The big Spanish clubs are not necessarily trailing him now,” says the reporter. “Maybe he might fancy Spain possibly but I think if he decided to leave it probably would be for the Saudi project.

“He wants to have that impact in Saudi as being a top player and to help Arab football in the Middle East.

“I’m not sure I could see him going to another club in Europe,” Bailey adds. “Could he have a season at PSG, a season at Bayern Munich? It’s obviously possible but I personally still think his next move will be to Saudi.”

Is there still a chance Mohamed Salah stays?

After Liverpool dismantled Manchester United at Old Trafford at the start of September, it had felt as though a new contract could be coming Salah’s way soon.

The Egyptian King was sensational that day, underlining the fact that could have years left at the top level.

Salah publicly commented on his contract situation after the game as well, putting pressure on the Liverpool owners to begin talks over an extension.

However, things have since gone quiet. And with October now upon us, the chances of Salah signing a new contract appear to be drifting.

Until anything is publicly announced there is still a chance that Mo stays on at Anfield of course, but that is starting to feel like a long shot. If he did ultimately end up staying and succeeding in Europe, Liverpool supporters will be sick.
