Liverpool dropped to second place in the Premier League table after drawing 2-2 with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Roy Keane has backed Liverpool to challenge for the title under Arne Slot this season, with the Reds just a point behind league leaders Man City.

Slot should be very pleased with the draw away to Arsenal, particularly with his side having been losing until the 81st minute.

It was another strong team performance from Liverpool, with no player really standing out for the visitors in North London.

Captain Virgil van Dijk stepped up to equalise after Bukayo Saka's opener, with Mohamed Salah then cancelling out Mikel Merino's goal.

Liverpool told to sign Darwin Nunez replacement

Attackers Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez clinched the respective assists, although former West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker does not feel the latter is up to the task at Liverpool.

"I’m very impressed with Liverpool – they’re a professional, well-organised, well-drilled team," Reo-Coker said on the BBC Football Daily podcast.

"Everybody knows their job, everybody knows what is expected of them and everybody is playing for a place. None of the players look like they are comfortable in the team in the sense of, their place is guaranteed week in, week out, and Arne Slot is in charge of that side.

"I feel if they could really get that striker. I’ve always been quite hard on Nunez but I feel he’s not going to be that striker that gets 25 goals a season for Liverpool.

"If they can really get that goal-scoring striker, it would be hard to not say that they could be the favourites for the Premier League title. That’s the one part they are really missing but apart from that it’s hard to look at any weaknesses in this Liverpool side."

Darwin Nunez impresses Gary Neville in 2-2 draw vs Arsenal

It was indeed another tricky afternoon for the Uruguay international, although Nunez did impress Gary Neville against the Gunners.

The Liverpool attacker was handed a start by Slot amid the absence of the injured Diogo Jota, with Nunez forced to defend for large parts of the game against Arsenal.

He rarely got a sight on goal, but the Uruguayan did play a crucial role when he squared the ball for Salah's equaliser.

Slot may have a difficult decision to make in the upcoming transfer window regarding the potential signature of a new striker, but for the time being he will be satisfied with his options, especially when Jota returns.

The return of the injured Federico Chiesa, who was signed in the summer transfer window, will also bolster the club's options in the final third.

Liverpool's chiefs have proven that they will not make big moves in transfer windows unless they are exactly what the club needs, meaning the Anfield faithful will be well aware that they could be waiting a while before a new striker joins.
