Liverpool left it late to secure all three points against Brentford with Darwin Nunez the hero for the Reds.

The Uruguay international scored two stoppage-time goals to ensure Liverpool left west London with a vital win, with Arsenal adding a sweetener to the result by throwing away a 2-0 lead at home to Aston Villa to draw 2-2 and drop more points in the title race.

With Paul Merson saying the title is Liverpool’s to lose, the Anfield side will never be as confident as they are now about going all the way in the Premier League, where Arne Slot looks nailed on to lift the English championship in his first season in charge.

And Nigel Reo-Coker believes Nunez could become a legend at Liverpool if the Reds do just that.

Nunez brace vs Brentford ‘the most important goals’ in his Liverpool career

Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, the former West Ham midfielder made the bold claim that Nunez will go down as a Liverpool legend if the Reds go on to win the title from here on out, with the striker’s performance ensuring the Merseyside giants claimed a big win in the title race.

Reo-Coker said when analysing Nunez’s performance for Liverpool against Brentford: “Those two goals Darwin Nunez scored could be the most important goals he ever scores in his Liverpool career, I will go and say that.

“When you get this type of result against a difficult team to beat in Brentford, it hits 90 minutes and you get two goals to win those three points in a Premier League title race.

“I think this is a game where it could define Liverpool’s season and where they’ll say this was the main game that transformed their entire season. Darwin Nunez will probably go down as a Liverpool legend if they go all the way to win the Premier League title.”

Nunez is already a modern-day Liverpool cult hero

‘Legend’ is a word that is becoming easier for fans and pundits to attach to players despite their accolades not even holding a candle to the true greats of the game, with Reo-Coker’s assessment of Nunez just one such example.

However, there’s no denying that the Uruguayan international has already established himself as a modern-day cult hero for Liverpool, with the striker’s chaotic style of play and energetic personality striking a chord with many supporters.

And Nunez’s performance on Saturday will go far in cementing the striker’s status as an icon for Liverpool, with the attacker taking the Reds in the right direction in winning the Premier League title.
