'In my opinion': Jerzy Dudek says Bologna have a 'technical' player who would fit in perfectly at Liverpool

Liverpool are back in Champions League action on Wednesday as Bologna come to Anfield.

The Reds gave themselves the perfect start in Europe’s premier club competition having beaten AC Milan on matchday one.

In sparkling form domestically, Liverpool are heavy favourites to beat their Serie A opponents. But Reds’ supporters will remember all too well what happened the last time they faced an underdog Italian side at Anfield.

Liverpool had been expected to comfortably beat Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-final first-leg in April.

Instead, it ended up being Jurgen Klopp’s final European game at Anfield. The Bergamo based side smashed the Reds 3-0 before going on to win the competition.

That terrible evening six months ago can serve as a reminder against complacency for Arne Slot. And as if Liverpool needed any more warning, former Red Jerzy Dudek has name-checked a player to watch out for who would be right at home in the Liverpool squad.

Jerzy Dudek gives Kacper Urbanski tip

Dudek earned himself legendary status at Liverpool as a Champions League winner in 2005.

Having endured an unremarkable four-year career prior to that year’s final, the Polish goalkeeper made himself an overnight icon with his heroics in Istanbul.

As a result, it’s always worth listening to his thoughts on matters relating to Liverpool.

And ahead of the Reds facing Bologna on Wednesday, Dudek has suggested that his old team should take a closer look at attacking midfielder Kacper Urbanski.

“We have been talking about him a lot lately,” the 51-year-old told Super Express. “He is a technical player who feels good when he has the ball at his feet.

“We will see if he gets a chance to play in this match at all. In my opinion, he would feel good in a team like Liverpool, because there are many players who play in small spaces.

“You can see that Kacper feels good in such a game,” adds Dudek. “He showed it in the frame. But Bologna is a different style of playing.”

Who is Kacper Urbanski?

As Dudek alludes to, Liverpool may not actually even get a chance to lay eyes on Urbanski at Anfield on Wednesday.

Talented though he may be, the 20-year-old has only started one game for Vincenzo Italiano’s side this season.

Bought back in the winter of 2021 from Polish Ekstraklasa side Lechia Gdansk, Urbanski has only played 31 times for Bologna since.

Nevertheless, he is starting to make a splash on the international scene. Urbanski started both of Poland’s most recent Nations League games against Scotland and Croatia.

The youngster is no doubt a silky little player who is a little in the mould of Harvey Elliott. Urbanski may not be on the scene tonight, but perhaps he’s worth keeping an eye on moving forward.
