Liverpool continue to fly high under Arne Slot, with the Reds top of the Premier League table after beating Crystal Palace.

Slot has won six of his first seven Premier League matches in charge of Liverpool, with one loss coming to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

The Dutchman has also picked up two wins in the Champions League and one in the League Cup, to become the first Liverpool manager to win nine of their first 10 matches.

Another international break now disrupts his momentum, along with injuries to Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister.

The star duo both went off injured against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, where Diogo Jota scored the only goal of the game.

Jason Cundy slams Liverpool over Trent Alexander-Arnold contract

Michael Owen loved the assist from Kostas Tsimikas, with the left-back's cross having been met first time by his Anfield teammate.

His fellow full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also impressed against the Eagles, leading to a debate about the player's future on talkSPORT.

The right-back's Anfield contract will expire next summer, with the apparent lack of a new deal shocking talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy.

"Trent is the one that is a head-scratcher for me," he said. "He's 25/26, to allow him to go, that is ridiculous for me. His contract is going to expire.

"How are we having this conversation, why is this conversation taking place? This conversation is obsolete, because the contract, as far as we're aware, hasn't taken place.

"I'm stunned, we're in October now. If you value the player enough at your football club, they should not go into the final two years of their contract. As soon as you get into 18 months, question marks start, and then the player's power becomes more and more."

Jason Cundy makes 'insane' Trent Alexander-Arnold claim

Alexander-Arnold, who turns 26 this week, is rapidly approaching the expiry of his contract, although talks could be taking place behind the scenes over a new deal.

That should be a priority for Slot and the powers that be at Anfield, with the academy graduate a crucial player for future success.

Worryingly, his Liverpool teammates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are in the exact same position regarding their contracts and indeed their importance on Merseyside.

And such a situation has stunned Cundy, who has mooted a move for Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in the near future.

"He's got the golden ticket, Trent," he added. "He's 26 years of age, obviously he wants to stay you would have thought at Liverpool, he's been there since he was six. 20 years he's been at the football club, he's very much part of the future of the football club.

"For us to be having a conversation about what might happen to him on the first of January… he can sign a pre-contract with Real Madrid on the first of Jan. That's three months away, think about that. That is insane. Walk for nothing."
