Liverpool usually keep their cards close to their chest in the transfer market, but in recent weeks, speculation about their potential transfer targets have dominated the back pages.
The attack is the strongest part of their squad, but strangely, the Reds have been linked with several reinforcements in this position.
Omar Marshoush is wanted by Liverpool, while reports from France claim Rayan Cherki also has keen admirers at Anfield.
However, it appears as if they also have one eye on midfield additions, with reports from Italy claiming the Reds have stepped up their pursuit of a long-term transfer target.
Liverpool make contact with Ederson’s representatives ahead of January window
After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Liverpool, Arne Slot opted against pursuing transfer alternatives as he decided to use Ryan Gravenberch as his number six.
And while that decision has already paid dividends, Slot’s side remain in the market for further midfield reinforcements.
According to Rudy Galetti, the Reds recently approached Atalanta to explore a January deal for Ederson, who also has admirers from a host of other clubs across Europe.
Liverpool were linked with a move for Ederson in the summer transfer window, but a deal never came to fruition as he stayed put in Italy.
The journalist has also confirmed that while Atalanta do not want to sell the Brazilian international in January, they might consider offers of around £42m for the summer of 2025.
Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini described Ederson as a ‘world-class’ player and the midfielder featured against Liverpool last season as the Italian giants secured a famous win in the UEFA Europa League.
Ederson’s stats this season
Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or in a slightly advanced role, Ederson has been a key player for Atalanta this season.
He has featured in every game for Gasperini and 12 of those have been in an advanced role, which is an indication that it’s his best position.
Ederson 2024-25 stats | Apps | Goals | Assists | Yellow cards | Mins played

UEFA Champions League | 4 | – | – | 3 | 360′

Ederson’s physical ability coupled with his technique would make him an ideal fit for the Premier League and his versatility would allow him to play multiple roles for Liverpool.
Whether or not the Reds decide to press ahead with their interest, however, remains to be seen.
