Liverpool have put themselves in a precarious position in the transfer market ahead of 2025.

The Reds chose not to add too much to their squad in 2024 and are currently set to lose three of their biggest players for nothing.

Put these two factors together, and it’s hard to come to any conclusion other than that Liverpool need to do some important business next year.

If all of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold leave, then the Reds will have to replace each of them in turn as well as likely needing a new midfielder and possibly a left-back.

Ignoring the challenges posed by having to replace Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, Salah alone will leave an an almost impossible hole to fill in the Liverpool squad.

As you’d expect, though, the Reds appear to have a few interesting irons in the fire, including one of Salah’s Egyptian national team colleagues.

Liverpool targeting Omar Marmoush

There is no way that Liverpool will be able to replace Salah like for like. The 32-year-old is one of the greatest players in Liverpool history. It simply is not that easy.

For Egypt, they will also soon have to face the reality of life after Salah.

Thankfully for the Pharaohs, they seem to have stumbled upon a player who is displaying a capability to score at a similar rate to their captain: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.

Marmoush has been in terrific form for Eintracht this season. The 25-year-old tops the Bundesliga scoring charts with eight goals – four more than Harry Kane – while also sitting joint top in assists with four.

This uptick in form follows on from a summer in which Liverpool were linked with Marmoush. And according to German reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Egypt international is still very much ‘on Liverpool’s list.’

“Omar Marmoush is on the list of FC Liverpool,” says the journalist. “The Reds are closely monitoring his situation.

“Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt want to extend his contract early by one year until 2028. Without a release clause. The top priority for SGE is to keep the 25-year-old top.”

Omar Marmoush plan emerging for Liverpool

At 25-years-old, Marmoush is showing signs that he’s ready to make a step up for his next club.

He’s at the kind of stage where Liverpool picked up the likes of Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and indeed Salah himself under Jurgen Klopp.

The signals were there last season that Marmoush could get his big move in the summer, but having stayed at Eintracht he has really kicked on again.

For Liverpool, it is a signing that would make a lot of sense. Eintracht boss Dino Toppmoller has called Marmoush a ‘fast’ and ‘pacy’ player and that would fit into what the Reds want from their wide players.

Obviously, the preference would still be that Salah stays and perhaps if Marmoush were to join he could learn from the Egyptian King before hopefully taking over the mantle. But if Mo is destined to leave, than perhaps there would be no one better to replace him.
