The January transfer window is well underway and it remains to be seen if Liverpool decide to take action.

2024 turned out to be a quiet year in terms of incomings for the Reds, with Federico Chiesa the only player who walked through the door at Anfield.

Arne Slot opted to stick to his guns in the summer, but the upcoming transfer windows could prove to be different as he aims to fine-tune his squad.

And now, if reports are to be believed, Liverpool have made their move to sign a midfielder from Wolverhampton Wanders who was previously on their radar.

After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield, the Reds refrained from pursuing midfielder alternatives, instead opting to use Ryan Gravenberch as a number six.

It’s safe to say Slot’s decision has already paid dividends, with the Dutch international playing the best football of his career.

However, Gravenberch can’t play every game, so the Reds are on the lookout for a midfielder who can play as a number six.

And now, according to Rudy Galetti, Liverpool have asked for ‘fresh info’ on Joao Gomes, who has been a huge hit at Molineux since joining from Flamengo.

The journalist wrote on X: “#Liverpool, #Arsenal, #Tottenham and #ManUtd have recently asked for fresh info on Joao #Gomes.

“To date, #Wolves are not open to considering selling him this transfer window: only a huge offer could change their mind.”

A host of clubs seem to be interested in signing the Brazilian and with Wolves unwilling to sell, the Reds face a battle in their hands to snap him up.

What has Joao Gomes said about Liverpool?

Wolves paid £15m to sign the midfielder from Flamengo last January and it’s safe to say his stock has risen considerably since his move to England.

Liverpool wanted to sign Gomes before his move to Wolves, but a deal never materialised at the time as Jurgen Klopp had announced his departure, so everything came to a bit of a standstill at Anfield.

The energetic midfielder, however, has spoken about his dream of playing for Liverpool in the past, which is a sign that he’d find a move hard to turn down.

"Liverpool is a team I would play for," said the Brazilian via ESPN Brazil in 2022.

“I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and my family's, my biggest dream in football."
