Liverpool have been the best team in the Premier League this season by some distance, with the Reds the clear favourites to win the title.

Arne Slot has proved to be the perfect replacement for Jurgen Klopp with the Dutch manager evolving his predecessor’s Liverpool squad into a winning machine with various means and methods of getting results.

With Gary Neville liking this Liverpool team to his Manchester United side, Slot has done a lot right since taking over at Anfield, a feat made that more impressive given how little the Reds spent last summer on transfers, with Federico Chiesa the only new addition for this season.

Indeed, Liverpool were linked with plenty of names throughout the off-season last year, and one target who is now thriving in the Premier League could now be a dream signing for the Reds after an interesting update from Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool have to consider Dean Huijsen swoop after release clause update

Taking to Twitter, the Italian journalist shared that AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has a release clause in his contract with the Cherries that becomes valid this summer, with the Spanish centre-back one of the breakout stars in the Premier League this season.

Romano posted: “Understand Dean Huijsen has release clause into his contract valid from this summer. Told Chelsea really appreciate Huijsen and he's high on the list, Bayern called to be informed. Bournemouth are unbeaten since Huijsen entered in the starting XI, with 8 clean sheets.”

Liverpool were heavily linked with Huijsen last summer as Slot eyed the former Juventus defender as a potential signing, with Bournemouth eventually winning the race for the highly-rated Amsterdam-born centre-back.

Yet with news now out there that Huijsen has a release clause that becomes valid at the end of this season, Liverpool need to do all they can to bring the 19-year-old to Merseyside, especially with Virgil van Dijk’s future at Anfield still up in the air heading into the final months of the defender’s contract.

Huijsen has been one of the breakout stars in the Premier League this season, with Bournemouth teammate Milos Kerkez also wanted by Liverpool having impressed under Andoni Iraola with the Cherries.

And looking at Huijsen’s stats for the season, it’s clear why the teenage defender is attracting so much interest heading into the summer, with Liverpool a club that could move for 19-year-old given Slot’s need for a top defender in the transfer window.

The summer will be an important period in Huijsen’s young career, and with the defender having a release clause in his contract, Liverpool could make a move for the centre-back to directly replace or one day succeed Van Dijk.
