Liverpool can undoubtedly be happy with their efforts so far this season, with the Reds looking strong under Arne Slot.

Slot has a hugely difficult task on his hands at Liverpool in replacing Jurgen Klopp, but he has performed admirably thus far.

The Dutchman certainly has the approval of his new squad, with Kostas Tsimikas saying everyone has confidence under Slot.

Anfield legend Luis Garcia meanwhile is enjoying Liverpool under Slot, with the Reds impressing at both ends of the pitch.

Four Premier League wins from five have been recorded, with the Merseyside club having also beaten AC Milan in Slot's first Champions League game in charge.

Luis Garcia reacts as footage of Xabi Alonso at Liverpool emerges

The latest league win came at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, but the Liverpool Instagram account did save some of the build-up space to look back on a previous Anfield clash this time 18 years ago.

Liverpool shared footage of Xabi Alonso's memorable long-range strike in the 2-0 win over Newcastle United in September 2006, with fellow Anfield icon Garcia quick to post a jokey comment, saying: "He should have passed me the ball."

Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold among current Liverpool stars

It was certainly a memorable night at Anfield, with Garcia among the players celebrating in delight and indeed disbelief with Alonso.

The latter had, however, previously achieved the feat, with Alonso scoring from deep inside his own half against Luton Town the season before.

Garcia meanwhile endured a frustrating evening against Newcastle, having hit the post, missed a fine chance and received a yellow card.

Alonso and Garcia joined Steven Gerrard in a very exciting Liverpool team under Rafa Benitez, with Slot now surely aiming to build something similar at Anfield.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are his star names, with leader Virgil van Dijk following in the footsteps of former captain Gerrard.
